Isabella "Bella" Swan: Main protagonist and narrator of the story. After Edward leaves her, she goes cray cray.
Edward Cullen: Male protagonist and seventeen-year-old vampire. He leaves his girlfriend Bella for her own good--to keep her safe.

Setting
The majority of the book takes place in Forks and La Push in Washington. Forks is where Bella lives, while Jacob resides in La Push. Toward the end, there's a scene set in Italy, where the Volturi are.
Where The Book Left Off
Bella saves Edward from death-by-Volturi, but the Volturi want Bella to become a vampire. Edward and Bella, along with Alice, return to Forks, where the Cullens have moved back to. Edward and Bella, happily reunited, are on different sides of the line as to whether or not Bella should be a vampire. Bella says yes, Edward says no. In the end, by the votes of the Cullen family members, Bella wins--she'll be turned after graduation. Carlisle said he'll do it, but she wants Edward to. Edward--still against Bella going vamp--says he'll change her on one condition: if she marries him. Bella says no, but it's not the end of that subject. The book ends with Bella grounded for life, her being back with Edward, and Jacob with his tail between his legs (aka upset that he didn't get Bella, because he was super close).
